PRICE TRAVEL: from 2.375 €Siberia, Russia
A dramatically wild landscape, isolated and remote. Siberia is the starting point of this new X-plore adventure. A journey on skis and pulkas that will lead us through frozen valleys, frozen rivers, craggy peaks, abandoned gulags (prisons) and Evenk settlements to finally enjoy a trip in the BAM (train).
(1) 01/04 – 14/04, 2016
During this journey of adventure with exploration we will visit hot springs and travel through the longest railway tunnel in Russia, which is in the the legendary Lake Baikal – Amur railway line (BAM). We will also explore the old prisons of the former USSR (Gulags), enjoy the fascinating landscapes of the Kodar mountains in winter and get to know the Evenk’s lifestyle.
The Stanovoy Mountains, located in Lake Baikal’s eastern side, rise up to 3,000 meters and Kodar (which in Evenk language means “The Rock”) is the highest mountain range in the area.
The Kodar forests are mainly formed by taiga, an element which reaches 1,500 meters above sea level. At higher altitudes the ground is rock or tundra. There are 18.8 km2 of glaciers in Kodar. However, and despite global warming, here they are not melting as fast as in other parts of the world, as they can be found at 1,800 meters or above, and had shown that its mass is not supported by the accumulation of snow but by superimposed ice. Even when we ski the lower parts of the valleys, we will find clear ice masses along the river banks.
The journey on skis and pulka is suitable for any adventurer willing to live a unique experience in a very wild environment. The maximum distance that we will go through every day will be 23 miles, and sometimes we will use the same camp zone so we can explore without pulkas.
