The San people (called ‘Bushmen’ by the colonizers) of the Kalahari are one of the oldest surviving indigenous groups on the face of the earth.Today, the culture and unique identity of the San are under threat. There are many cases of the very land on which they have lived for millennia being taken away from them. Meet the Hunter-Gatherer People ”The Kalahari Bushmen”.
The Bushmen are still well known for being masters in surviving in dry environments, the Kalahari and the Namib Deserts of Namibia. Even today, some groups still depend to a large extend on hunting and gathering in these areas.
The greatest and hardest hunting technic ever been seen, done by one man, is to track and run down the Great Kudu Antelope in midday African heat. This persistance hunt is an astonishing achievement by a single human hunter and shows what these Kalahari Bushmen are really made of. We will be traveling through their beautiful Namibia landscape, where they have lived for about 65 000 years. We listen and learn when our Bushman/Guide interprete what kind of a story the tracks on the ground tells us. They will show us all the different useful plants, bushfood and how to find water.
The Bushmen community on the western edge of the great Kalahari is home to the only historic living village in Namibia where the ancient San culture is demonstrated in genuine tradition. They specialize in teaching their skills, including hunting, gathering, singing, dancing, games and traditional healing as well as their traditional crafts. We will visit these extraordinary people and stay with them for several days in their historic living village. We will also walk with them in the wild, to gain a first-hand experience of their culture, which is also part of our own Stone Age history in the evolution of mankind.
