The Lake Khovsgol is to the northwest of Mongolia and shares its borders with Russia. It is Mongolia’s second largest lake and it is located 1645 meters above the sea level and it measures about 136 km long. The predominant human population in the region consists of sheep-, cattle-, and reindeer-herding nomads.
The outflow of Khovsgol forms the Egiin Gol (gol is river, in the language of Mongolia) that eventually joins the Selenge River. Khovsgol and Egiin Gol have always been there for the nomads of the grasslands, no matter how dry the summer may be. The Selenge River is the major source of water entering Lake Baikal, the oldest and deepest lake in the world. During this 3 weeks during canoe expedition you will live the adventure of your life, canoeing through real wilderness and poorly explored areas.
