Climbing Kilimanjaro is a classic adventure to ascend the highest point on the African continent, the Uhuru Peak of Kilimanjaro (5,895 m). For the ascent we will use the Machame Route, one of the most beautiful that allows a more peaceful ascent away from the Marangu Route, much more crowded. An unforgettable life experience.

TRAVEL ITINERARY

DAY 1. ARRIVAL AT KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Arrival, reception and transfer to Arusha.

Hotel accommodation, Arusha.

DAY 2. TREK START – MACHAME
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Land transfer to “Machame Gate”. Registration in the national park and start of the trek through a spectacular tropical forest, arriving at the Machame Camp (2980 m) in 4 hours.

Tent accommodation, Machame.

DAY 3. MACHAME – SHIRA
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Around 8:30 we will start our walk. We will follow the ridge with beautiful views just before reaching some caves that are located near the Shira camp (3840 m). Walking time: 5 hours. Free afternoon to rest.

DAY 4. SHIRA – BARACO
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Today’s trek will take us from Sira to the Baraco camp through the Lava Tower. To make a high point today we will go up to 4630 m in the Lava Tower from where we will have beautiful views of Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Then we will descend to sleep at the Baraco camp (3950 m). Walking time: 7 hours.

DAY 5. BARACO – KARANGA
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Today will be a smooth day and it will also be the first day that we sleep above four-thousand meters. A walk of about 3 hours will take us to the Karanga valley (4100 m). Arrival at noon and time to rest and acclimatize.

DAY 6. KARANGA – BARAFU
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

A 4-hour day will take us to Barafu along the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Barafu in Swahili language means “ice” so in this place you can already feel the height and the cold. Camp at 4600 meters.

DAY 7: ASCENS TO UHURU PEAK (5895 M) – MWEKA
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Summit day. We will wake up at midnight and after breakfast we will start the ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. The first hours will be hard but little by little and as we gain height our body will become accustomed to the effort. The sunrise will surprise us near the rim of the crater, at Stella Point (5688 m). From here the path runs alongside ice-makers until it reaches the highest point on the African continent, Uhuru Peak (5895 m). Overwhelming views over the summit glaciers and the vast African sheet at our feet. The descent will be done by the same route to the Barafu camp where we will eat something light. In the afternoon, descent to the Mweka camp (3,100 m). Long day of between 12-14 hours of walking.

DAY 8. MWEKA – MWEKA GATE. ARUSHA
Breakfast.

We will leave the camp in the morning to descend through a humid subtropical forest to Mweka Gate (1700 m) in about 4-5 hours. Here we will receive our diploma of ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Then transfer to Arusha. Along the way we can see the beautiful fields of coffee plantations and the villages of the Chaga ethnic group.

DAY 9. FLIGHT BACK HOME
At the agreed time, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport to take the flight back home.
