THE GARDEN OF THE ATLANTIC AT YOUR OWN PACE

DAY 1. CITY OF ORIGIN FLIGHT – FUNCHAL
Flight departure from and arrival at Funchal airport in the afternoon / evening. Reception by our carrier and transfer to the hotel in Funchal.

DAY 2. HIKE IN THE SÃO LOURENÇO PENINSULA
Breakfast.

In the morning we will move to the easternmost end of the island, the São Lourenço Peninsula, which juts out like a finger into the sea and presents one of the most spectacular geological landscapes on the island, thanks to its spectacular multi-colored rock cliffs. and its picturesque islets. Here we will make a journey of the entire peninsula until we reach Pico do Furado, a hill where we will have a beautiful panoramic view of the sector. The total walk will be about 4 hours. The return is made by the same itinerary. Rest of the afternoon free.

DAY 3. ROUTE BY THE WEST OF MADEIRA

Itinerary covering: Câmara de Lobos – Cabo Girão – Ribeira Brava – Calheta – Punta do Pargo – Porto Moniz – Seixal – São Vicente – Funchal
Breakfast.

Tour making interesting stops. We will start the tour in Câmaro de Lobos, a picturesque fishing village highlighted by swordfish fishing, and Cabo Girão, the highest cliff in Europe and the second highest in the world with its 580 m of vertical drop. From there we will follow the coast to Punta do Pargo, lighthouse and spectacular cliffs. We will continue skirting the coast until Puerto Moniz (natural pools next to the coastal rocks). The north coast offers us beautiful corners between Seixal and Sao Vicente, such as the Manto de la Novia waterfall. From São Vicente, a town located near the laurel forests and which has an old town with traditional architecture. In the late afternoon, return to Funchal crossing the tunnel and continuing through Serra da Agua and Ribeira Brava.

DAY 4. HIKE TO CALDEIRAO VERDE
Breakfast.

In the morning we will make the journey to the north of the island to Santana. From there we will take a road that goes into the mountain until we reach Queimadas, located almost 900 meters high. The route to the Caldeirao Verde waterfall is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular hikes on the island. The path will go through different valleys, canyons and mountains covered in dense subtropical vegetation until reaching Caldeirao Verde, a beautiful waterfall of almost 100 meters that plunges into a small pool. The duration of the walk between 4h30-5 hours (13 km). Return to Funchal in the afternoon and spend the night in Funchal.

DAY 5. FUNCHAL – PICO ARIEIRO – RIBEIRO COLD – FUNCHAL
Breakfast.

In the morning, before the possible fogs cover the summits of the center of the island, we will go up the road to Pico Arierio (1,818 m), the third highest summit and from where we can appreciate an extensive panoramic view. From here we can take a short walk of about 45 minutes (round trip) to the Ninho da Manta viewpoint from where a spectacular panorama opens up over the Ribeira da Faja da Nogueira valley. Then we will continue by car to Ribeiro Frío, where we will observe the trout farm and we can take a 50-minute walk to the Balcoes viewpoint, through a beautiful laurel forest and following the levada. From Balcoes we will have a view of the 3 highest peaks on the island. We will finish in the afternoon walking through some places in the central-eastern sector of the island. In the middle of the afternoon I return to Funchal.

DAY 6. TOUR THROUGH THE NORTH – EAST OF MADEIRA

Itinerary covering: Porto da Cruz, Faial, Santana, São Jorge, Curral das Freiras
Breakfast.

Tour making interesting stops. We will start the day crossing north through the center of the island until we reach Porto da Cruz, in Faial we will observe the beautiful coast and the steep cliffs. Views over the Roca del Navio. We will return to Funchal bordering the east coast. In the afternoon we will continue our tour making a stop at Pico dos Barcelos, a beautiful viewpoint over the city of Funchal and the south coast. We will continue along a winding road that ascends strongly until we reach Eira do Serrado, an elevated point at 1094 meters high that allows us to have a bird’s eye view of the valley of the Nuns (Curral das Freiras). Incredible little town nestled in the heart of a valley hidden in the shadow of mountains over 1600 meters high.

DAY 7. EXCURSION RABAÇAL – LEVADA DAS 25 FONTES
Breakfast.

The Levada de las “25 Fuentes” is one of the water springs that drains from Rabaçal to Ribeira da Janela, the longest river in Madeira. The trail starts near the Pico da Urze (1,400 m) and descends through the Levada surrounded by laurel forest, white heather and endemic plants and flowers, in an environment with numerous small waterfalls and beautiful views of the mountain slopes. covered with dense subtropical vegetation. Total hike of about 4:30 and 13 km. After the activities, return to the capital.

At the arranged time, transfer to Madeira International Airport to take the flight back home.
