Northern Norway, in the heart of Lapland, is one of the best places for observing the Northern Lights in winter. On the rugged Norwegian coast stands the archipelago of the Vesteralen and Lofoten islands, a paradise of rugged mountains that emerges directly from the ocean. During this 8-day experience we will have the opportunity to observe the “northern lights” and carry out activities in nature: trekking, kayaking, snowshoeing or horseback riding, exploring the Lappish culture and sailing to observe cetaceans, all guided by our specialist X-PLORE guides.

TRAVEL ITINERARY

DAY 1. CITY OF ORIGIN FLIGHT – EVENES / NARVIK
Flight to Norway. Stopover in Oslo. Arrival in the evening at Evenes – Narvik airport.

Hotel accommodation, Evenes – Narvik.

DAY 2. EVENES / NARVIK – ANDENES (VESTERALEN ISLANDS)
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

In the morning, drive for about 120 km until you reach Sortland, the entrance to the island of Hinnøya, one of the largest in Norway. Here we will visit a farm of a Sami family that has been engaged in reindeer husbandry for more than 150 years. We will have an experience with the reindeer, we will be able to touch them, feed them and listen to traditional stories. In the afternoon we will move to the neighboring island of Andøya, the northernmost of the Vesteralen islands, where we will stay in apartments by the sea, located in a privileged location with a sauna and outdoor jacuzzis. At night with luck we will be able to contemplate the magical northern lights from the beach.

DAY 3. WALKS – NAVIGATION TO SEE WHALES – SVOLVAER (SAFARI DE AURORAS BOREALES)
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Short transfer to Andenes in the morning. Departure by boat to see whales (duration 2-4 hours). Navigation will be carried out on board a comfortable boat that has wide platforms to observe it. There is the possibility of sighting different types of cetaceans, such as sperm whales, pilot whales, roncuals, humpback whales or orcas that come to these waters for much of the year to feed in this area due to the richness of their waters. In the afternoon we will start the 200 km trip to the capital of the Lofoten Islands, Svolvaer. Arrival and installation in our Rorbuer cabins (traditional fishermen cabins). Dinner time. After dinner, together with our guide, we will go out to a favorable area with wide panoramic views to carry out a Northern Lights safari (whenever the weather and activity conditions allow it).

DAY 4. LOFOTEN. EXCURSION WITH RACKETS TO JUSTADTINDEN
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

At 9 in the morning we will leave for the neighboring island of Vestvagøy and the town of Leknes (65 km). The hike planned for today follows a wide rising ridge towards the Justadtinden peak (738 m). Snowshoes and trekking poles will be provided. The length and duration of the walk will be agreed with the group according to the motivation and preparation of the participants. The duration may be from 3 to 5 hours depending on the objective set. During the walk we will have views

Exquisite views of the mountains in the southern sector of the island, the Skifjorden fjord and the Himeltindan mountain range with sharp peaks. Return to Svolvaer in the afternoon. Free time for dinner. In the evening, for those who want, another auroras safari will be organized until midnight.

DAY 5. SVOLVAER (LOFOTEN). KAYAK OR HORSE RIDING
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day for adventure activities. You can choose between a sea kayak ride or a horseback ride. Activities duration: 3-4 hours. Both activities will be supervised by local Norwegian guides. In the afternoon free time to take a walk in the surroundings or to visit the city of Svolvaer (9,200 inhabitants), where we can find attractions such as the Magic Ice Bar (Ice Bar) or the War Museum, with a collection of costumes and artifacts from World War II. Also in Svolvaer we will find a good number of art galleries of local artists and shops to buy souvenirs. In the afternoon, just like the day before, we will have another safari to observe the northern lights.

DAY 6. LOFOTEN. EXCURSION WITH RACKETS TO RYTEN
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

At 8 in the morning we will leave for the island of Moskenesøya and the town of Fredvang (100 km). Nearby we will find the spectacular Kvalvika beach, over 1 km long with its white sands and transparent waters. Today we will climb to the top of the Ryten (543 m), the highest point of the cliff that falls on the beach and offers spectacular views of the north coast of the island and the surrounding mountains. Activity duration: 4-5 hours. Return in the afternoon to Svolvaer.

DAY 7. LOFOTEN. EXCURSION WITH RACKETS TO SAUTINDEN. TRIP TO NARVIK
Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Short transfer (20 km) to Laupstad, a small town located at the bottom of the Austnesfjorden fjord, one of the longest in the Lofoten. Our snowshoe hike will head towards the Morfjordskaret pass (355 m), watershed and panoramic point towards the northern and southern slopes of this area of ​​Austvagøya Island. From this point we will turn right to face the slopes that will take us to the top of Sautinden (596 m). 360º panoramic view, highlighting to the east the powerful massif of the Higravtindan (1,147 m), the highest of the Lofoten. Descent along the same itinerary. In the afternoon we will start the long journey back to Narvik (150 km, 2h30).

DAY 8. FLIGHT EVENES / NARVIK – OSLO – CITY OF ORIGIN
Breakfast.

In the morning transfer to the airport to take the flight back home. Stopover in Oslo.
